NAEM Publishes Strategies for Managing Emerging EHS Regulations

This August, the US-based National Association for Environmental Management (NAEM) published a report, called Staying Ahead of the Curve, laying out five key strategies for companies to keep up with ever-changing EHS regulations:

1.     Rely on relevant expertise;

2.     Tap into technology;

3.     Leverage staff capacity to manage risks;

4.     Establish strong internal standards;

5.     Demonstrate proactive leadership.

Among many suggestions, NAEM’s report stressed the value of working with consultants to gain a specialized outside perspective on one’s internal EHS practices. And for companies with global facilities in particular, the report suggested contracting with regulatory tracking services which collect, organize and continually update EHS legal registers.
